‘Real Housewives’ Russell Armstrong Commits Suicide

August 16, 2011

Sad news today as we learned that “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Taylor Armstrong’s husband, Russell Armstrong, committed suicide.

When we heard about this divorce, I was relieved. Taylor was definitely unhappy and I was concerned for their daughter. Then came the claims of abuse and I was even more relieved she got out of an allegedly bad situation.

But it seems there was even more going on than we could even begin to understand because Russell took his own life.

Russell’s lawyer Ronald Richards told TMZ that there were also severe financial problems. He had made his fortune in the dot com internet craze, but in 2005 filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy with less than $50,000 in assets. His debt is estimated to be somewhere between $1 and $10 million.
Russell had been staying at a friend’s house in L.A. which is where his body was found hanging last night. His lawyer said,

“I feel bad because his credit cards weren’t working … He had tremendous financial problems. He was also extremely bummed out about the divorce with Taylor. As far as a will, even if he does have a will, they don’t have any assets, so I’m not sure what there would be left to leave. I am extremely saddened … I had no idea he was depressed.”

I never cared for the guy on the show, but man, this is just sad. My heart goes out to their little girl, who will not get to know her father. He also left behind a 14-year-old son, Aiden, from a previous marriage.

I am sure ratings will be up this season, especially as we tune into the reunion special, which should film after the fact. I wonder if Taylor will take a break or quit the show due to this devastating circumstance.
