August 8, 2011

Singer Gavin DeGraw was the victim of a brutal attack early Monday in New York, after a night out with friends on the Lower East Side. To make matters worse, after he fled the area, he ended up getting hit by a taxi. OMG, horrible!

The 34-year-old singer was enjoying an outing with friends Sunday night, when in the early hours of Monday morning he found himself being attacked by hoodlums. According to the New York Post, he was in the area of 6th Street and 1st Avenue around 4:00 a.m. when the beating took place. The thugs left DeGraw after the beat down, and in a state of confusion, he wandered off. He ended up around 19th Street and 1st Avenue, where a taxi accidentally hit him, but he was not seriously injured from that unfortunate incident.

DeGraw is currently at Bellevue Hospital, where he is recovering from a broken nose and several cuts on his face. He is listed in stable condition. A statement was released by his reps:

“Gavin DeGraw was assaulted … and was taken to the emergency room at Bellevue Hospital by ambulance. He is currently under observation. We have no additional information at this time.”

DeGraw has been on tour with Maroon 5 and Train, and he has had to cancel his appearance at Saratoga Performing Arts Center scheduled for Tuesday night. No word yet if any of his other appearances have been canceled, the August 12th concert date at Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York is sold out. Earlier this evening, Adam Levine tweeted, ‘Please send your love to @gavindegraw tonight. We love you buddy. Get well and get back out here!’

His album ‘Sweeter’ will drop in September. Get well soon, Gavin! Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery.
