Sarah Michelle Gellar Returning To All My Children

Yet another former Pine Valley resident is set to return home, this time in the likes of Sarah Michelle Gellar. The former ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ star announced today that she’ll be making a cameo appearance on All My Children, the ABC daytime soap where she she appeared as the original Kendall Hart (Erica Kane’s daughter), from 1993-1995.

Alicia Minshew has portrayed Kendall Hart since 2002, and yes, Minshew will continue to do so. So how will Gellar fall into the mix?

While at the Television Critics Association’s press tour today, the 34-year-old announced:

“I can officially confirm I will be doing a guest spot. When I first heard the show was canceled, I didn’t understand. It just doesn’t make sense to me. I called (casting director) Judy Blye Wilson … and said, ‘I want to do something.’ I was very specific,” the actress said. “I don’t want to be Kendall (Hart). That’s Alicia (Minshew’s) role.”

If you’re a longtime All My Children fan like myself, no doubt you’re as excited as I am to learn another AMC vet is coming home, albeit a cameo appearance. I’ll be quite curious to see how this plays out.

Today marked the first airing of Josh Duhamel’s return as Leo du Pres to the long running soap, did you happen to catch the episode today? Okay fine, his on air time was for a brief 10 seconds or so, at the very end of the show, where we saw Greenlee see him on a gurney. Looking forward to tomorrow, where we’ll see more of his hotness. Is Greens just dreaming? Arrrgh. These two had incredible chemistry way back when, and I’m hoping to see that same magic between them tomorrow.

Okay, back to Gellar. She’s had an eight year absence from TV since the end of ‘Buffy’ in 2003 and admitted that she was ‘burnt out’. During her hiatus from the small screen, she and her husband, Freddie Prinze, Jr., had a daughter, Charlotte, who was born in September of 2009.

It’s because of her daughter that she was willing to return to TV, signing on for the CW drama, “Ringer”, which will premiere in the fall. She explained, “Once I had my daughter, I realized that I was done living the nomadic lifestyle. Although it works for some actors, I want to be home. I want to put her to bed and get up with her in the morning. I want to be there for her first day of school. And nothing offers that more than television. And what’s been so distinct getting back into it was I didn’t know how much I’d missed it.”

Gellar is one of my favorite actresses, so I’m excited to see her back on TV. As for her AMC guest stint, no word yet on when she’ll make an appearance, but the final episode will air on September 23rd. Sniff sniff.
