Amy Winehouse Planned On Adopting 10-Year-Old Girl

July 31, 2011

The Sunday Mirror reported today that the late Amy Winehouse was in the midst of adopting a 10-year-old girl from St. Lucia prior to her death. The 27-year-old Rehab singer met the girl two years ago while on vacation and took a liking to her.

Dannika Augustine told the Mirror:

“Amy was already my mother. I would call her mum and she would call me her daughter. She was the most amazing person and I was looking forward to living with her here or in London. I cannot believe she is gone. This is the worst thing that ever happened to me.”

So what’s the backstory on Dannika? Her parents split shortly after she was born, and her father lives in Germany. According to the paper, he had given Winehouse his blessing after she had contacted him regarding his daughter and expressed her interest in adopting her. He knew that Winehouse would be able to provide for her and ‘give her a wonderful life’. Her mother, Nada Germaine, also agreed to give Dannika up for adoption because she too is unable to find work and is going through some tough times right now as a single mother.

Winehouse allegedly had plans on visiting Dannika next week. The 10-year-old’s grandmother, Marjorie Lambert, owns the bar next to Cotton Bay Village Resort, where the singer would stay while in St. Lucia. It is because of Lambert that Dannika and Amy came to know each other. Lambert told The Mirror, “Amy wanted to have a child so bad. If she had not died, there is no doubt she would be here in St Lucia completing the adoption process. There is no way she would have done what she did to herself if Dannika was with her.”

What are your thoughts readers? If it’s true that Amy was in fact planning to adopt Dannika, would it have been approved?
