Get ready my friends because singer Erika Jayne is taking the music world by storm. I know this because not only have I listened to her fabulous music but I got the chance to have an exclusive interview with her last week, sweet!
The lovely Erika Jayne has been heating up Billboard’s Dance Charts for years and my friends she is only getting hotter with each single she releases. Not only that but she is an amazing young lady who I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with.
Rachelle: Can you tell me a little bit about your background, family, where you grew up, etc?
Erika: I grew up in Atlanta GA. I have a very supportive family who has been there for me and my career since I started performing at age 3 around the house.
Rachelle: You are described as a Dance/Electronica singer. What does that mean exactly?
Erika: Honestly I have no idea where that label came from so I am not really any help in clarifying what it means.
Rachelle: Dancing and music are clearly your passion, have you always had a passion for them?
Erika: Yes. My mother was a piano player so there was always music was around my house. Ever since I can remember I have just wanted to sing and dance and put on shows. Dancing was first for me then music, especially in high school where I was involved in musical theater.
Rachelle: What was it like having one of your first songs, “Rollercoaster” go all the way to #1 on Billboard’s Dance Chart?
Erika: It was unbelievable, a dream come true. But at the same time it was unreal. You hope that something like that happens and when it does, it feels so good.
Rachelle: You are one of only two artists in the history of Billboard’s Dance Chart to have 5 singles go to number one consecutively. Can you talk a little bit about that?
Erika: Honestly I just always try to make the best music possible and that is my focus. Everything that comes along with that is just a bonus.
Rachelle: Are you working on a new album right now?
Erika: I am currently in the studio writing songs.
Rachelle: Can you tell me about Pretty Mess Records?
Erika: It is my record label that I started. I named if after my first album and fourth number single. Having your own label is a great way to distribute all your music and platform as well. It is very nice to be independent and be fortunate enough to deliver music the way you want to.
Rachelle: Will you be touring anytime soon?
Erika: Actually I just played in Detroit last Saturday at Motor City Pride. I will also be at the Mirage in Las Vegas over July 4th.
Rachelle: What is next for you?
Erika: I want to continue to record new music. I would like to release an EP this year but mostly I just want to continue on this creative journey.
Rachelle: What else do you want our readers to know about Erika Jayne?
Erika: I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been supportive. I also want to let my fans know that I hope to continue to make you run out to the floor and dance.
