Bobbette Miller’s best friend Abbie Vicknair simply posted a blog about their situation on the social networking site and had no idea who would find it. The New Kids on the Block singer, and “Blue Bloods” actor, saw his fans tweet and simply hit “retweet.” Then the magic happened!
Donnie Wahlberg’s Twitter message was seen by his 185,000 followers and many of them wanted to help. So many people called the Vanderbilt University Medical Center to help, that six matches were found for Bobbette! The NKOTB singer said:
“It’s a testament to the value of Twitter when used for more than telling people what one is eating for dinner or using it to sell products. The real life savers are the people who donate organs and the doctors! All I did was help get the message to them.”
Now thanks to a friend who was trying to raise awareness for her friend’s condition and a star who took it upon himself to help, a girl’s life is saved. Thanks to the willing donor, the transplant surgery is scheduled for June.
I think it is great! Donnie is a very busy man right now, with wrapping up the latest season of “Blue Bloods,” performances (like the latest on DWTS) and preparation for their big KNOTBSB tour that kicks off in less than a month. And he takes the time to not only tell us what he’s up to, but also to read fans posts and help out!
Are you as amazed as I am about this kind gesture? I know it was pretty simple for him to do, but he could have ignored it. But now, thanks to Donnie Wahlberg’s Twitter, a kidney donor was found for a very needy girl. Tell me your thoughts in the comment section below.
