Nicki Minaj will reportedly join Britney Spears for her upcoming tour in support of the Femme Fatale album. The announcement has left some wondering if the hard-edged hip-hop diva is the right fit for round two of the Britney come back.
Now that Brit Brit’s 2011 takeover is in full swing, the only thing she needs is a tour partner. A few weeks back I was a little thrown off when I caught wind that Enrique Iglesias would be joining her on the road this summer. I mean, when was the last time he even had a massive hit? Either way, it sounds like his ego got the best of him – he dropped out shortly afterward, leaving an open spot in the line up.
Now we are learning that Nicki Minaj has been confirmed on the tour, apparently doesn’t have any beef with being considered an opening act.
If you look at the overall vibe of many of her songs it seems a strange combination. No one doubts that she is talented – her unique ability to sing and rap has blown a breath of fresh air into the urban music scene – but I just can’t imagine that they have many overlapping fans.
Even though the days of the more innocent Britney are long gone, she still holds true to the pop image. Even her most risqué songs and videos would seem out of place next to any of Nicki Minaj’s songs.
I guess the combo works when you consider the overall Femme Fatale theme. About the tour, Britney tweeted:
“Could not think of a sexier Femme Fatale than @NickiMinaj to come on tour with me! Gonna be a hot summer people!”
If they could figure out a way to do a quick collaboration before things kick off I might actually be sold on the idea.
The tour kicks off in Sacramento on June 16th.
