Barry Watson gained fame as the oldest of Camden clan on the WB hit show 7th Heaven. His days of playing good guy Matt are gone and now he is appearing along side Sara Rue in the ABC Family original movie ‘My Future Boyfriend’ looking as good as ever.

Barry Watson

By now I am sure you all have seen the promos for the new ABC Family made for TV movie starring hunky Barry Watson. The other day I got the chance to be a part of Q&A interview session with the talented actor and boy did I learn a lot!

I got the opportunity to ask Barry a couple of questions that not only had to do with the film but what his fans can expect from him next.

Rachelle: What was it about the character of Pax that interested you in playing him when you first read the script?
Barry: I think, for me, it’s pretty obvious with Pax, who wouldn’t want to play a character like Pax? He’s somebody that’s completely innocent and so new to this world that he’s come into. So every little thing is like a discovery, and it’s like being a child again. It was really fun, even when I wasn’t working, I was trying to do things that were what I thought Pax would be like, and trying to pretend that I was seeing some of these things for the first time. I think it’s probably a good thing for everybody to do at some point is to kind of look at the world and life the way Pax did throughout this movie. So I think that’s really what drew me to want to do this, to do the movie and play Pax.

Rachelle: Can you discuss any other projects that you’re currently working on?
Barry: Well, I did a pilot that’s not going get picked up. Right now, I’m either going to Atlanta or I’m going to Vancouver at the end of the month. I just don’t know where I’m going yet. So there’s two projects that are up in the air for me right now, but I’ll know by the end of the month where I’m going. Actually, I’ll know by the end of today or tomorrow where I’m going.

Ok so he was a little vague on what is next but given that Watson is pretty awesome I can’t wait to see whatever it is he chooses to do next.

Much of the interview was in regards to of course the film. Barry talked about the fantastic chemistry he has with his on screen lady love Ms. Sara Rue. He says the two got lucky that they worked so well together and that translated on screen. One difference they had was that she is killer at improve him not so much but that didn’t stop her from trying to get him to bring it. All in all Barry gave props to Sara calling working together very easy.

As for how he got involved with his latest role well it is pretty much the norm. He read the script loved everything about the part of Pax and thought it would a fun character to play. Watson was right too he so enjoyed not only playing the futuristic character but also filming the flick. He and Sara were given a lot of freedom in terms of direction which is great for any actor. That isn’t to say that they didn’t stick to what was on the page because they did but sometimes they did go off page if you will. Barry thinks that because they were able to have so much fun the project will be better and hopefully their enjoyment will translate on screen.

Since the film focuses on true love Barry gave us some thoughts on what he learned about true love since the movie. He talked about how when we get older, people get more and more jaded about love. He feels that people need to still accept their first instinct, that innocence, that you have when you’re young and you’re falling in love. I would have to agree with him.

Just how much of Watson is in his character Pax? Barry says that with whatever role you play you have to have a little bit of yourself in each thing you do, with Pax, there’s a lot of Barry. Also, he thinks to have Pax be a real character he had to bring a lot of himself into him. If he tried to create this character that was too far away from who he really was it wouldn’t have been as good.

Barry had the opportunity to work with the amazing Fred Willard who he calls great. The two of them spent a big chunk of the first part of the shoot just them. He shared that they had very simple conversations and that Fred almost killed him one day during a stunt and driving scene. They apparently almost smashed into a brick wall, going 40 miles an hour but Barry still has a great fondness for the talented Fred. Another little tid bit was that Fred loved the hotel’s apple cobbler, Willard even said it was one of the things he was going to miss. Most of all Watson said the experience to work with Fred was unforgettable.

I have been a fan of Barry Watson’s since he was Matt Camden so I was thrilled to get the chance to interview him. He is truly a great guy and I can’t wait to check out his latest project tonight on ABC Family at 8PM EST.
