Fans who attended WonderCon 2011 this weekend in San Francisco were treated to an extended preview video of Warner Brothers’ upcoming movie, GREEN LANTERN. Starring Ryan Reynolds as test pilot, turned Emerald Knight, Hal Jordan, the preview rocked fans! This will be the 11th DC comic book hero to hit the big screen and thanks to the latest special effects technology, this one looks like a sure winner to be the hottest ticket this summer. GREEN LANTERN opens in theaters nationwide on June 17, 2011.
I′ve always been a fan of the Green Lantern. The classic DC comic book hero was always good for some wild story lines and terrific artwork. The character first appeared during the Golden Age of Comics back in 1940. After a short hiatus, the Green Lantern returned in 1959 during the ′Silver Age′ thanks to legendary artist Gil Kane, who also helped revitalize other DC characters like Batman. Now the Emerald Knight was part of a intergalactic peace force. In the 1970, Neal Adams, whom I met in person in 1973, took over. Adams had a great eye for detail and played with the medium, much like Jim Steranko, Of course, Steranko took it way beyond anybody else at the time, especially his work at Marvel for Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.. By the way, I met him, also, at the same Triple-Fan-Fare Con in 1973. You couldn′t miss Steranko, waltzing around the convention with an incredible blonde on his arm wearing a full length sable coat!
The movie version of the Green Lantern, which Warner Bros will release on June 17, follows the Silver Age story line. The preview shown at WonderCon 2011 this weekend in San Francisco wowed the audience! Ryan Reynolds stars as test pilot Hal Jordan who gets tapped to join the Emerald Knights of the Green Lantern, also known as the Green Lantern Corps. The preview is an extended version, just over four minutes and looks awesome! I can hardly wait!
