Ricky Gervais Fired for Gay Scientology Joke at Golden Globes?

January 17, 2011

Whether you watched the Golden Globes or not I am sure by now you have heard all about Ricky Gervais’ gay Scientology joke. The comedian certainly didn’t hold back during his hosting duties but many are wondering if it cost him future gigs as host of the infamous awards show. Find out all about the fallout of Gervais’ comments that some think crossed the line.

Ricky Gervais

So this seems to be the question of the day regarding last night’s awards show, did Ricky Gervais get fired for the gay Scientology joke he made at the Golden Globes? Well that appears to be a yes and no answer.

According to E! Online Twitter was all buzz last night when Ricky disappeared from the show for about an hour after making oh so many inappropriate yet in my book super funny remarks about some of Hollywood’s biggest names that he was fired. Of course if you watched the show he wasn’t but that doesn’t necessarily mean he will be asked back in the future despite earning pretty darn good ratings for the awards show. Many critics are claiming that the comedian went too far and the powers that be at the Hollywood Foreign Press will not ask him back again. However a rep for Gervais call that “rubbish”.

As for why Ricky was MIA for part of the show he had this to say to the New York Daily News on the subject.

I did every single introduction I was meant to. There just happened to be a long gap. This is because I was allowed to choose who I would introduce in advance. I obviously chose presenters who I had the best jokes for. (And who I knew had a good sense of humour). Everyone took it well and the atmosphere backstage and at the after show was great.

This is certainly a touchy and hot topic but I want to know what you think about it. Should Ricky Gervais be fired from the Golden Globes for his gay Scientology joke and other remarks? Do you think he pushed the envelope too far or was it all in the name of good fun? I have to say although I was shocked he went there so to speak on some of his comments I was highly entertained.

Check out the below video of some Ricky bits from the show below.

We Scientologists have a great sense of humor, as long as they don’t have crimes to hide from us, like Gervais probably has.

Scientology student Terryeo, AKA Terryeo, AKA — who knows what other names this entity is using — is posing as a Scientologist.

“Scientology student Terryeo” appears to be his latest incarnation — first appearing on the net last week.

    BEWARE OF IMITATORS

He speaks with forked tongue. “Terryeo” does not speak for me or my friends… He may/probably does speak for the self-styled outlaws known as Anonymous.

Ricky, shame on you. Abusive behavior and speech is harassment; let’s call it what it is.

Our world suffers too much from people who are intolerant of others. I know you are better that that. Please get back into (your innate, intuitive, kind) character. It requires skill to find things that people can laugh at that are not harmful/hateful/intolerant but it can be done. As an creative person, you too, especially, help create our future culture. Let us all contribute to make our culture as pleasant a culture as we can. Life is hard enough without making it ugly, too.

    I thank you in advance.

Funny how the Hollywood celebs LOVE to make fun of others like Sarah Palin, George Bush, etc., but WHOA unto thee who dare make fun of THEIR dysfunctional lifestyles!

Note: He did not disappear after his opener in which he made the gay scientology joke, he disappeared after mocking the President of the foreign press

I thought he was pretty good! Way to go Ricky!

    Scientology Student Terryeo Says:

Scientology Student MM, aka Terryeo seemed to appear on the internet right after Terryeo disappeared from it. After fair-gaming people, such as accusing them of sending anthrax and tons of other lies, and tons of lies in defense of Scientology it’s pretty obvious that Terryeo nym-shifted. But don’t tell anyone because he thinks he’s foooling everyone with his Scientology super-powers.

    Jimbo Lincoln Says:

Okay, so he didn’t get fired and if he doesn’t get rehired there it will be for a reason yet to be determined. And someone didn’t like his gay/Scientology joke. Was it the gay part or the Scientology part. People thought Steve Martin’s Scientology jokes with Tina Fey at the academy awards were pretty funny but he didn’t actually mention Scientology so it was OK. Come to think of it his gay joke was pretty funny too. Remember it– Two billion people are watching this and every one of them thinks that we are all gay! Scientologists have a sense of humour except when it comes to Scientology. There they have no sense of humour by edict of cult founder Hubbard– no jokers and degraders, said he, verily, verily.

    Jenny Says:

Hello Scientology Student MM, you might be an ethical person but your cult is not. Research Operation Freakout, Operation Snow White, forced abortions in the Sea Org, and disconnection to name a few.

Mary Sue Hubbard (L Ron Hubbard’s wife) went to federal prison along with other top scientologists for crying out loud! Ethical? Are you joking?

So the next time you preach, why don’t you talk with a mother that hasn’t seen her daughter in 13 years because of “disconnection”?

    I wish you well.
