It was not a good night for Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark stunt man Christopher Tierney who took a bad fall during a performance and ended up in a pit in front of a preview audience. You can watch a video of this very scary moment below as well as learn just what went wrong during the performance.
Christopher Tierney, a stunt man in the Broadway production Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, sustained a bad fall during Act 2 of a preview performance last night. Showbiz 411 is reporting that Tierney fell about 26 feet when a cable and harness that were holding him snapped.
After the accident the show was immediately stopped, there was reportedly about 10 min left in the show. Tierney was rushed to Bellevue Hospital were he is in stable condition suffering broken ribs. Although Reeve Carney is the actor who plays Spiedy apparently numerous men play the character during the various stunts throughout the performance, Christopher is one of those men obviously, you can see a photo of him here.
There is generally not a Monday night performance of the show however due to the Christmas holiday the schedule was altered. No performances are set to go on tonight but there will be two tomorrow and Tierney’s understudy will take his place. There is no official word on when Christopher will return to the show.
It is easy to see that something went terribly wrong during the performance of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark that caused Christopher Tierney to fall from many feet in the air to the ground. I have to say it is some scary stuff and I can not imagine being in that audience or one of the other performers in the show when the accident happened. Here is hopping that Tierney has a safe and speedy recovery as well as that the powers that be at the show figure out what went wrong and fix it before someone else is hurt.
Let me know your thoughts on the video and the accident.
