David Le Cluse was the chairman of the Croydon Athletic FC and started working for the Ryman League club last fall until Mazhar Majeed, co-owner of Croydon, hired David on as the head of the league at Croydon.

Unfortunately for Le Cluse, it was discovered that Majeed was under investigation for being allegedly involved in a scandal that had powerful heads of the league fixing matches amongst teams. Majeed was arrested in August for suspicion of conspiracy. This devastated Le Cluse for he is said to have lost a lot of money as a result of this scandal. And you know when you are at the top, you could be the one held responsible!

On Saturday, reports are saying that a family member found David in Carshalton in a garage where he is said to have shot and killed himself with a rifle.

Former manager of Croydon Athletic told a source that “He was very upset at the allegations and the club getting involved. It probably hit him harder than most because of his personal friendship with Majeed. He wanted nothing more than for the club to succeed and he was probably upset and affected by it more than anybody else.”

The Croydon Athletic club released the following statement on their website,”Our thoughts and prayers are with David’s wife and children, and we would ask everyone to respect their privacy at this devastating time for them.” So so sad!

David Le Cluse left behind a wife and two children. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.
