After 17 years of marriage George Lopez and wife Ann Lopez are getting a divorce. TMZ.com is reporting that the couple have in fact been working out details of the split for a long time but that it was a mutual decision to divorce. Ann and George have one child together daughter Mayan who is 15 years old.

So other than she was married to an extremely funny man what do we know about Ann? In terms of a biography Lopez was born Ann Marie Serrano in the beautiful town of Hartford, Connecticut and she has actually made a name for herself in the entertainment world as a producer. Plus she has dabbled in acting a little bit too, you may have seen her show off her acting chops on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Life With Bonnie. Plus she is one heck of a writer too, I guess one might call her a jack of all trades in Hollywood.

It is her work outside the entertainment industry that she may best be known for which includes being a spokesperson for the National Kidney Foundation as well as being co-founder of the Ann and George Lopez Foundation. The foundation she founded with her soon to be ex-husband focuses on making permanent changes in education and health for underprivileged children and adults, along with promoting kidney disease and organ donor awareness. It was George’s own bout with kidney disease that spurred Ann’s quest to speak out about the disease that takes so many lives each year as well as get the word out about organ donation. In case you don’t remember Ann selflessly gave her husband one of her own kidneys back in 2005.

Ann Lopez is George Lopez’s wife for the time being, however she will always be a media mogul and philanthropist. Ann truly seems like an amazing woman to me, here is wishing her the best during this difficult time.
