Katy Perry Sesame Street Video Banned!

September 23, 2010

Katy Perry’s Sesame Street video has been banned! Parents started complaining about the cleavage and the video was pulled. Check it out here and see for yourself!

This is so silly! When I read this story on TMZ, I thought, “Geez, what the heck did she wear?” and I was totally expecting a latex dress or something. I literally fast forwarded through the video to see if she changed into something actually risqué.

People obviously overreacted. She is wearing a yellow dress with spaghetti straps. Sure she could have been more modest, but it is not something I would prevent my little one from watching.

The segment was to air on New Year’s Eve and features her and Elmo, who is completely naked BTW, singing a modified version of her hit song “Hot N Cold.”

The video made its way to youtube and got nearly a million views – and several complaints. Some were just ludicrous like,

“You can practically see her t*ts. That’s some wonderful children’s programming.”

“It would have been a great video, if_ she didn’t look like a whore.”

“she_ was singing a song? I didn’t notice because i couldnt stop staring at her cans.”

“they’re gonna have to rename it cleavage avenue”

“Never thought I’d be_ staring at boobs on sesame street….sweet.”

“my kid wants milk now”

Please people, I doubt the kids would have even noticed the outfit, but they would have loved the song, which is really cute! It’s not like she is shooting whipped cream out of her bra or anything! She made her name with a single about how she likes kissing girls people, her outfit is rather tame!

Anyway, the Katy Perry’s Sesame Street video is posted below. Tell me if you think they made the right call banning it, or if you think people are overreacting.

Seems like an overreaction to me. Her dress is a little low-cut, but nothing too obnoxious. And I agree the song is cute!

Yeah, I don’t see the big deal..unless you put stuff like that in kid’s minds, it’s not a problem.

I think that the cleavage there will hardly be noticed by the little kids. The song is too cute and Katy deserves better than to be banned there. and why didnt anyone say something before they shot the video if it was so bad? definite overreaction.

How exactly is kissing a girl more inappropriate or “risqué” than a low-cut dress? Is lesbianism just a fetish to you?
You seem to be completely comfortable with somewhat immodest outfits on children’s programming, but from your tone I believe one could infer that you would object to two men or two women expressing romantic feelings on a similar show. The fact is that if children aren’t exposed to different types of relationships growing up they’re more likely to become homophobic as teens and adults, the same way those who grow up in monoethnic communities are more likely to be racist.
tl;dr: lesbianism isn’t racy- show love, not tits
On an unrelated note: What was your initial impression of the relationship between Bert and Ernie?
