The ceremony for Kelly McGillis and Melanie Leis’ civil union took place earlier this week in New Jersey. What does the future hold for these two now that they are legally bonded? Get the scoop below.

Kelly McGillis

We all remember Kelly McGillis as the woman that Tom Cruise was head over heels for in the movie Top Gun, but who knew that she is a lesbian? Well, nobody, except for a few people in show biz circles, at least until April of last year when she officially came out via SheWired.com

Why did she choose that particular interview to come out publicly? She said:

“That was one of those moments when somebody asked me a question, my kids had gone from home, so I really didn’t have to protect anyone by skirting the question, and I just decided to be absolutely honest.

In fact, before this, she was married twice, and at one point she even owned a restaurant in Key West with her second husband, Fred Tillman. Coincidentally this is where Kelly and Melanie met, while Melanie was bartending there. The restaurant is still open for business, but McGillis says that she is no longer apart of it.

The small service took place on Wednesday morning at the Collingswood Municipal Court, reports RadarOnline.

Here you will find photos of the ceremony.

We all know about McGillis’ career, but what about Melanie Leis? Reportedly, she is a regional sales exec for Independence Communication. She also attended the same college as music greats John Mayer and Steve Via – Berklee College of Music.

We wish these two the best of luck on their journey together! Feel free to use our comment section to congratulate Kelly McGillis and Melanie Leis on their civil union.

Nice story. That isn’t, of course, a picture from the civil union. It’s apparently from the “Prince of Persia” premiere.

I knew Melanie for many years. My ex husband taught music at a private school on Long Island and she was one of his students. She’s a wonderful person and I wish her all the very best wishes.
