George Parks: UMass Band Director Passes

In a sad event, the UMass band director, George Parks, passed away Thursday. He was in charge of the Marching Minutemen for 33 years and his death was s shock. For more on this legend’s life, including a video, keep reading below the photo.

The whole band was getting ready to head to this week’s game. Sadly after a performance he suffered from a heart attack and died unexpectedly.

Now back to the tragedy. He has been a very important part of the school and will be sorely missed. The University issued this statement:

“This is an extraordinary loss,” UMass Chancellor Robert Holub wrote in an email to the campus community. “Let us all pull together in the coming days and demonstrate the spirit that George exemplified with such pride for so many years.”

It is definitely a sad day. There is no word on memorial services, but you can leave your well wishes for UMass’s band director George Parks’ family and loved ones below. Also check out this video.
