Pay Celebs to Tweet For You: New Fundraiser on eBay

September 17, 2010

A crafty new fundraiser called TwitChange setup by Atlanta minister Shaun King allows fans to pay celebs to tweet for you in support of disabled Hatian children. The auctions, featuring high profile names such as Dana White, Eva Longoria, and Jessica Alba, all have different features, but most include following the winner on Twitter for a certain period, as well as some bonus prizes. One such auction, by UFC president Dana White, features a bonus of a ticket to the next UFC event sitting next to White, as well as fully paid travel and lodging for the entirety of the trip! Currently bidding at $11,100, that package is second in the rankings so far.

Currently atop the auction to pay celebs to tweet for you is Zachary Levi with $11,200, who has been mysteriously vague about the winner’s prize.

“[The winner] will be rewarded epically. Coffee date with yours truly? Cameo on the show? Marriage proposal? The world may never know.”

Rounding out the top five is Ian Somerhalder, Nick Jonas, and Jewel Staite, with over $14k between them. King, the event’s organizer, says that it all began with interest expressed by Eva Longoria.

“At first, I was kind of skeptical,” CNN reports King said Thursday. “I believed she wanted to be involved, but I didn’t know how it would make this kind of difference. But she got very, very involved. She’s more into philanthropy than she is everything else; she acts and models and everything else so she can do philanthropy.”

While some auctions, like Dana White’s, are extravagant, most are just for some face time with the fan’s favorite star. “Most of them are a Skype call, a phone call, things that are kind of low-effort, no-cost for them but pretty cool for a fan,” said King,

Best of all, the proceeds from the auction go to benefit disabled children in Haiti. The Caribbean country remains devastated after the massive earthquake that ravaged the country earlier this year, and King is channeling the celebrities’ fame to help the most needy reestablish shelter and provisions.
