SNL will be bringing back the big guns with Amy Poehler hosting the season premiere on September 25. Entering its 36th season, Saturday night live has brought in some promising new talent, and will start things off with a bang by bringing in the comedy veteran and having Katy Perry as the musical guest. Check out the full scoop, with pictures and video below!
Losing notable names such as Jenny Slate and Will Forte over the break, SNL has hired Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah, Vanessa Bayer, and Paul Brittain in the off season to fill the gap. Pharoah is noted for his remarkable impression of President Obama, which will no doubt feature in the show.
Leaving SNL in 2009 to focus on her new comedy, Parks and Recreation, Amy Poehler’s SNL cameo will no doubt draw a big audience. Katy Perry recently announced that she is thrilled to be appearing on the premiere, and can’t wait to work with the comedy heavyweight!
“OKAY! My BIG surprise is I’m opening the season of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE on Sept 25 W/SNL Alum Amy Poehler!!!”
No word yet as to whether Perry will be acting on the show as well, but it looks like the singer already has some ideas for her role.
“Dear Amy Poehler can I please be your braced faced neighbor friend that hangs out with you & RICKKKKK!”
I think with a little advice from her fiancé Russell Brand, she might do well. But, with a little luck, we might even see Brand make an appearance on the season opener! With the show getting a boost in ratings via the final two shows of last season, hosted by Betty White and Alec Baldwin, let’s hope the new season can pick up where the last left off. Will you be tuning in to watch Amy Poehler host the SNL premiere? Or will Katy Perry draw you in? Let me know in the comment section! SNL hasn’t been funny in years, with the exception of Tina Fey, but if I was forced to watch it I would probably mute the show and just watch the commercials.
